  • About

This native sedge is endemic to the Hawaiian islands, meaning it is only found here in the entire world. It is a sturdy plant, makes great erosion control and can grow from sunny and dry to moist and wet. The Hawaiian name has been lost.

  • Uses

Leaf blades and seed clusters can be used in lei or flower arrangements.

  • Growing tips

This plant can generally handle full sun, but I recommend acclimating the plant if you live in an area that is particularly hot and dry. Be mindful of garden buggas as they can cause the decline of this plant. It will naturally drop leaf blades and appear to have “highlights”. This is natural, but can be pruned if the highlight leaf blades are unattractive.
