  • About

Hibiscus clayi is one of multiple hibiscus endemic to our wonderful island of Kaua’i. This is a critically endangered species and extremely limited in the wild. Plants grow into a sparse bush and produce flowers continously throughout the year.

  • Uses

This hibiscus was enjoyed ornamentally by early Hawaiians and planted around entryways. Modernly, the flowers are used in lei.

  • Growing tips

Full sun recommended. This plant enjoys being watered, but will quickly exhibit yellowing leaves if overwatered. Be mindful of pests, as they can cause plants to decline. Make sure soil has proper drainage. As the plant gets taller, it will likely need a stick to keep it from falling.
