About
A classic fern, the kupukupu is a sword fern that stands tall and makes a wonderful individual or companion plant. This plant is one of the first to sprout after fresh lava flow. There are many ferns in the same genus that look very similar, but this is one of only two native Nephrolepis in Hawai’i. Be mindful of this when purchasing kupukupu without checking the scientific name first.

Growing tips
This is an easy fern to care for, it can tolerate sun or shade, just make sure it has good drainage and to water frequently. If it is happy, it will quickly grow and fill up the container it is in. Infrequently it can get white flies or melebugs, so be mindful of pests.
